Field placement provides valuable hands-on experience

For my internship for the public relations course, I`m doing it with a company called Trivaris, which is located here in Hamilton, 175 Longwood Road South.

Trivaris works with numerous companies to help them reach their technological potential. Trivaris partners with these companies to try and get their ideas and products into the marketplace, and to make them successful and profitable. Although, they also believe it takes much more than money and good ideas to want to make it in the real business world.

So far, some of the projects I`ve worked on are the Guranteed Interview Program(Civiside), which dealt with helping veterans find their next job after their military service has completed.

I'm working with a team of Mohawk PR students on other projects such as Innovation Night and Laugh Your Arts off for Mental Health. Innovation Night is in January, and it's where people get to share new ideas. It's a friendly and positive environment, being held on January 24th at the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington. Laugh Your Arts off for Mental Health is taking place in April. It`s for people who suffer from mental illnesses. The evening includes stand-up comedy and will raise a lot of money for charity. I am personally really looking forward to that night, I think its going to be really fun and rewarding.

My role in these two events along with my team, is to come up with strategies of promoting the events, and trying to get some media coverage for both of them.

We`ve really enjoyed working with Cindy Porter on our few projects so far. Cindy is the director of marketing for Trivaris. She brings lots of experience to the table of dealing with all different types of clients, and knows how to handle the media. Cindy has taught us some really good things so far, and we look forward to continuing working with her for the duration of our internship.
