Socializing, the Smart Way

In our communications technology class we are learning about how different social media sites are affecting the business environment and the world of Public Relations.  It is easy to understand how popular sites such as Facebook and Twitter can help or hinder a company; however, I researched a relatively new web software called WordPress.   WordPress was established in 2003 and is web software used for creating and managing blogs.  The software and website is now considered one of the most advanced blog sites in the world and is used by hi-profile organizations such as; Sony, Ebay, Yahoo and Ford.  The sites available features, options and customization are some of the main reasons why WordPress has gained popularity among top print media outlets including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

Although there are numerous advantages to using WordPress, the top two are:  The software can be used as the backbone of a website and as a result of its highly customizable settings, the website looks more professional and not as though you are solely using a free template.  Second, WordPress allows for two way communication between an organization and their consumers.  This technology allows you to engage directly with your consumer by permitting them to comment on your products and share their opinions.   This benefit is essential because it creates positive reinforcement, or room for improvement depending on customer feedback.

Technology is continuing to evolve easing the way we communicate both internally and externally and constantly changing the business landscape.  PR professionals must be consistently familiarizing themselves with the latest technological trends and finding the various outlets of communicating messages to their publics.
