Want to travel and get your Masters? Brandon Waller explains how you can!

What if I told you you could turn your eight month postgrad certificate in Public Relations from Mohawk College into a MSc Strategic Communication and Public Relations; sounds like a dream eh?

Well it's a reality, thanks to a new partnership agreement between Mohawk college and Queen Margaret University (QMU) in Edinburgh Scotland you can turn your postgraduate certificate into a Masters degree in as little as twelve months.

"Mohawk College has researched and verified the credentials of Queen Margaret University," said Linda Basso, pathways co-ordinator at Mohawk College, "and we are happy to announce that Queen Margaret University has surpassed our expectations"

This past Friday past and current PR students from Mohawk College were invited to attend an information session about the program and had an opportunity to have any questions they had answered by either Greig Lawson, international recruitment officer, or by Sally Chalmers, programme leader of the MSc Strategic Communication and Public Relations program.

Before I get into the details of what was asked at this information session, here is a tweet from a student that attended the information session.

If you choose to apply to Queen Margaret University you will receive 30 of the 180 credits required to receive a MSc. What that means is you only have six modules left to complete plus your Dissertation;
  • 3 modules between September - December
  • 3 modules between January - April
  • Final project/Dissertation between May - Aug
A sample timetable and what modules are to be completed can be found in this leaflet. The MSc Strategic Communication and Public Relations program at Queen Margaret University have an average class size of 25 other students, similar to the class sizes in the Mohawk College Public Relations program.

The program regularly costs £12,500 for International students, but QMU is offering Mohawk College Graduates a discounted tuition of £9000! While this may seem extremely HIGH, but the program is OSAP eligible and students are able to apply for any scholarships and bursaries that are offered from the university. Additionally, as student in Scotland you are under a tier 4 student visa that allows for students to work 20 hours a week. If you work 20 hours a week during your studies at QMU, you would be able to cover your accommodation costs.

Applications to Queen Margaret open on October 31st at no cost. The application process includes;

  • a personal statement/essay;
  • a personal reference;
  • a professional reference and;
  • your resume/CV.

For more information or if you have any questions, please contact Greig Lawson or Sally Chalmers. Additionally you can download this leaflet about the program:
